CMS postpones national coverage determination for PrEP, says decision is ‘forthcoming’

CMS did not make a na­tion­al cov­er­age de­ter­mi­na­tion for PrEP by the ex­pect­ed date of Oct. 10, but a fi­nal de­ci­sion will be com­ing lat­er, the agency said Tues­day.

Un­der its pro­posed na­tion­al cov­er­age de­ter­mi­na­tion or NCD, CMS would move cov­er­age of PrEP from Medicare Part D to Medicare Part B. The agency said it has re­ceived sev­er­al com­ments voic­ing con­cerns that the tran­si­tion from Part D to Part B could cre­ate some com­pli­ca­tions.
