Monica Bertagnolli passed through the final step to become President Biden’s first Senate-confirmed NIH director in nearly two years with a 62-36 vote on Tuesday.
Bertagnolli, who currently heads the NIH’s National Cancer Institute, faced pressure from Senate Health Committee Chair Bernie Sanders, who voted against her confirmation over concerns that she’s not prepared to take on pharma’s “greed.”
