HHS’ newest biomedical research arm has yet to finalize its charter for its advisory committee or explain how members will put their heads together to prevent unnecessary duplicate research, a report from the Government Accountability Office published Thursday concluded.
Congress established the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) in 2022 specifically to spearhead biomedical research projects and get them over the finish line. As part of the agency’s establishment, which is housed within the NIH, it was tasked with convening an Interagency Advisory Committee composed of eight federal agencies to ensure that ARPA-H-funded research is free of unnecessary duplication.
