Samsung Galaxy Watch Receives Validation From University of Michigan for Accurate Fitness Tracking

What You Should Know:

Samsung Electronics and the University of Michigan have announced that the prestigious University of Michigan Human Performance & Sport Science Center (HPSSC) has validated the high accuracy of fitness tracking features on the Samsung Galaxy Watch.

– The Samsung Galaxy Watch, validated by the University of Michigan, provides a powerful tool for anyone seeking to improve their health and fitness. With accurate data and personalized insights, you can optimize your workouts, track progress, and achieve your fitness goals.

Clinical-Grade Validation

The HPSSC’s Michigan Performance Research Laboratory (MiPR) conducted rigorous studies comparing Galaxy Watch measurements to clinical and sport science reference devices. The study involved elite runners and tracked key metrics like heart rate, sweat loss, VO2 max, and body fat percentage:

  • Heart Rate: Galaxy Watch achieved an exceptional 90% correlation with reference devices, demonstrating its reliability in measuring this crucial workout metric.
  • Sweat Loss: The study revealed a 95% correlation between Galaxy Watch and reference devices in assessing sweat loss during distance training, ranging from 2.5 km to 20 km. This data is vital for proper post-workout hydration.
  • VO2 Max: Understanding VO2 max, an indicator of oxygen absorption during exercise, is essential for setting fitness goals. The study showed an 82% correlation, indicating strong alignment with clinical-grade equipment.
  • Body Fat Percentage: Galaxy Watch readings displayed a 95% correlation with DEXA scan results, the gold standard for body composition analysis.
