Intermountain Health Appoints Ryan Smith Named as Chief Digital and Information Officer

Intermountain Health has selected Ryan Smith as its new chief digital and information officer (CDIO), following a comprehensive national search. 

– Smith, a seasoned healthcare technology leader with a strong track record at Intermountain and other prominent healthcare organizations, will assume his new role in early 2025.

Leading Intermountain’s Digital Transformation

As CDIO, Smith will play a crucial role in leading Intermountain’s digital transformation efforts. He will oversee Intermountain’s Digital Technology Services (DTS) department, including:

  • DTS Operations
  • Digital Services
  • Data Services
  • Clinical Informatics
  • Information Security
  • Information Technology

Smith will report directly to Dan Liljenquist, chief strategy officer, and serve as a member of the Enterprise Leadership Team.

A Proven Leader in Healthcare Technology

Smith brings extensive experience to Intermountain, having served in various senior leadership roles within the organization for nearly two decades. His career also includes executive positions at Health Catalyst and Banner Health, where he served as senior vice president of technology and chief information officer.

Most recently, Smith held the positions of chief operating officer and interim president and chief executive officer at Graphite Health, a non-profit organization focused on improving healthcare data accessibility and interoperability.
