Merck’s insurance battle over $1.4 billion in alleged losses from a 2017 malware attack is now headed to New Jersey Supreme Court following an appellate decision in Merck’s favor in May.
The pharma was struck roughly six years ago by a global cyberattack caused by the malware NotPetya, which also hit well-known companies such as Danish shipping giant Maersk and French construction firm Saint-Gobain. The attack devastated Merck, infecting more than 40,000 devices in the company’s network and disrupting production of its HPV vaccine Gardasil 9.
