The family of Henrietta Lacks has settled with biotech Thermo Fisher for a confidential amount in the case of the immortal cells, called HeLa, the first human cell line to be reproduced infinitely in a lab.
In an emailed statement to Endpoints News, Thermo Fisher said it has settled with Lacks’ estate in the US District Court in Baltimore, ending a lawsuit that began in 2021.
“The parties are pleased that they were able to find a way to resolve this matter outside of Court and will have no further comment,” the company added.
