Google DeepMind has developed an AI system that predicts the chances that tens of millions of genetic variants will cause disease.
Called AlphaMissense, the technology is the highly-awaited follow-up to its AlphaFold, which predicted the structures of proteins. It was unveiled in a Science paper published Tuesday, along with predictions on 71 million so-called missense mutations. Each mutation is the change of a single letter in an amino acid that makes up a protein sequence.
