Bernie Sanders wants to add price caps to therapies developed with BARDA, CDC funds

Democrats and Republicans are currently wrestling with how to reauthorize the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act from 2006, with House Democrats already upset that drug shortage help likely won’t be included while Senate health committee chair Bernie Sanders (I-VT) looks to add new price caps for drugs developed with funds from the federal government.

Under the subtitle, “Chair Sanders Staff Proposal,” the new Senate draft reauthorization would add a cap to the price of any new therapy, drug or tech developed with financial support from BARDA or the CDC at whatever the lowest price (on the commercial market or procured by the federal government) for that product in Canada, France, Japan, Germany, Italy, or the UK.
