President Joe Biden selected Vanderbilt University’s medicine chair Kimryn Rathmell to serve as the next director of the National Cancer Institute, the White House announced Friday.
The second woman to helm the institute, Rathmell will succeed newly minted NIH chief Monica Bertagnolli, who was confirmed by the Senate last week. Rathmell comes to the NCI from an expansive career as a physician-scientist specializing in kidney cancer.
