WASHINGTON — The biotech industry’s largest trade group has parted ways with its top lobbyist, the group confirmed to STAT, adding to a recent bout of organizational tumult.
The departure of Nick Shipley may be part of a greater shake-up spearheaded by the Biotechnology Innovation Organization’s new CEO, John Crowley, who took over in December. An email sent to the group’s executive committee and obtained by STAT said that Crowley is “considering structural changes in the near future which could impact whether or not the role is permanently filled.”
Shipley’s last day as chief advocacy officer at BIO was Friday, and his profile has been removed from the group’s website. The departure was sudden, and he immediately packed up his office and left the building, according to three sources familiar with the departure.
