EU preparing for possible antibiotic shortage in the winter

The Eu­ro­pean Union this week is­sued a se­ries of rec­om­men­da­tions that aim to keep short­ages of cer­tain an­tibi­otics used to treat res­pi­ra­to­ry in­fec­tions at bay over the win­ter.

On Mon­day, the Eu­ro­pean Com­mis­sion, the EMA and the Heads of Med­i­cines Agen­cies said they rec­om­mend more co­op­er­a­tion with man­u­fac­tur­ers to in­crease the sup­ply and that na­tions con­tin­ue to en­gage with com­pa­nies to de­cide when to boost pro­duc­tion.
