Experts fear disruptions at FDA as Trump offers buyouts and layoff reports swirl

The Trump administration’s overarching message to the legions of people powering the federal government is simple: Leave. 

Public health experts are worried that workers, including those at the Food and Drug Administration, will listen — impeding the agency’s ability to review new medicines, move science forward, and protect public health.

Some employees at FDA and other health agencies may not have a choice, according to reports from BioCentury and the Wall Street Journal. The White House is reportedly weighing an executive order to drastically reduce staff across the Department of Health and Human Services and its agencies. BioCentury reported the order would halve the FDA workforce, while the Wall Street Journal said thousands of HHS workers would be impacted.
