Henrietta Lacks’ family settles litigation with Thermo Fisher for undisclosed amount over immortal cells

The fam­i­ly of Hen­ri­et­ta Lacks has set­tled with biotech Ther­mo Fish­er for a con­fi­den­tial amount in the case of the im­mor­tal cells, called HeLa, the first hu­man cell line to be re­pro­duced in­fi­nite­ly in a lab.

In an emailed state­ment to End­points News, Ther­mo Fish­er said it has set­tled with Lacks’ es­tate in the US Dis­trict Court in Bal­ti­more, end­ing a law­suit that be­gan in 2021.

“The par­ties are pleased that they were able to find a way to re­solve this mat­ter out­side of Court and will have no fur­ther com­ment,” the com­pa­ny added.
