Enhancing Health Outcomes for Older Adults through Uber Health and NationsBenefits Partnership

The Uber Health and NationsBenefits partnership streamlines access to essential services, facilitating a seamless experience from booking to payment. This collaboration empowers older adults to maximize their entitlements, prioritizing health and well-being—critical goals, given the significant impact of social determinants like transportation and nutrition on health outcomes.

– Challenges for Older Adults: Many older adults live alone and manage chronic health conditions such as heart disease and arthritis. Obstacles such as transportation insecurity and poor nutrition compound their health risks. Recent CDC data indicates that 5.7% of adults (approximately 14 million individuals) lacked reliable transportation for daily living within the past year, while poor nutrition remains a leading contributor to illness across the U.S.

– Innovative Solutions: High-quality ancillary services, including transportation for medical appointments and grocery delivery, can address these gaps, though navigating these benefits can be complex. To enhance user accessibility, the partnership integrates new technologies:

   – Members will soon be able to view their flex card balance directly within the Uber app.

   – A unified checkout option will allow users to combine covered and personal items in one transaction.

   – Grocery shopping will be available through the NationsBenefits marketplace, facilitating easy access to nutritious food.

– Support for Health Plans: Health plans will also gain the ability to customize transportation services, ensuring members can reach medical appointments and grocery stores efficiently. Additionally, Uber Health will expand access to health benefits cards through 2025.

Medicare Advantage members are encouraged to contact their health plans for detailed information regarding eligibility for specific benefits. This partnership underscores the commitment to enhancing the quality of life for older adults by addressing key health-related social needs.

“Our partnership with NationsBenefits makes accessing and using existing ancillary benefits easy and convenient, as we continue to unlock flex cards on our platform to reach even more people and boost their overall access to care through rides and grocery delivery,” said Zachary Clark, Global Head of Uber Health. “This is another major step forward in making benefits simpler at scale, especially for Medicare Advantage members.”
