What You Should Know:
– Medscape has launched a free AI medical scribe for US physicians, the latest entry in a developing space of artificial intelligence tools to help with clinical tasks.
– Known as Medscape Scribe, the new tool — available to all US doctors when logged in to their Medscape account — transcribes conversations during patient visits and generates a synopsis of the encounter.
Medscape Enhances Clinical Efficiency with AI-Powered Tools
Medscape has introduced Scribe, an AI-powered tool designed to streamline clinical documentation. Clinicians can choose from three widely used summarization templates based on their preference or the type of visit:
– SOAP (Subjective, Objective, Assessment, Plan)
– H&P (History & Physical)
– POMR (Problem-Oriented Medical Record)
Scribe can be used within the Medscape app to record consultations, with the option to edit reports on medscape.com and integrate them into the electronic health record. The tool is fully compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), ensuring that transcripts and summaries are automatically deleted after 72 hours. Scribe is one of approximately half a dozen tools developed by various companies to assist doctors with similar tasks.
In addition to Scribe, Medscape recently launched another AI tool, Medscape AI Search, aimed at improving the efficiency and accuracy of medical information retrieval. Available as a free service since April, Medscape AI Search provides immediate answers to medical queries through an intuitive chat interface on the Medscape app. Unlike traditional search engines, this tool can comprehend complex questions and deliver concise responses, with links to relevant Medscape reference pages, expert-reviewed information, news articles, and follow-up prompts.
For instance, clinicians can inquire about:
– Amoxicillin dosage
– Lung cancer
– Diagnosing Alzheimer’s disease
All responses are based on Medscape expert reviews, ensuring reliable and accurate information.
