Meet the Future of Medicine: Match Day 2025 at NYU

Every spring, thousands of medical students across the country discover where they’ll begin their residency — and their careers as physicians. It’s called Match Day, and it’s one of the most unforgettable moments in a doctor’s life.

This year, MedPage Today’s Rachael Robertson visited New York University (NYU) in New York City to meet the students, feel the nerves, and hear what they hope to bring to the future of medicine.

The following is a transcript:

Brooke Starn: My name is Brooke Starn. I’m from the San Francisco Bay Area, and I matched here at NYU for pediatrics.

Matteo Laspro: I’m Matteo Laspro. I’m originally from Brazil. I moved to the U.S. when I was 18 for college, and I’m doing plastic surgery at USC.

Melissa Song: My name is Melissa Song. I’m from Tempe, Arizona, and I matched at Stanford.

Lily Ge: My name is Lily Ge. I’m from New Jersey, and I’m matched here at NYU.

Matthew Auda: My name is Matt Auda. I’m from New Jersey and came to NYU for med school, and I matched at Columbia, which is my top choice. I hope to bring culturally competent and well-rounded and compassionate care.

Song: I think first and foremost, I hope to be just an incredible surgeon and incredible doctor for the patients that I’m taking care of. That’s definitely my No. 1 priority.

Starn: I hope to bring a perspective of being able to treat both individuals and populations and work to improve the lives of kids throughout the community.

Laspro: There’s so much burden of reconstructive disease and morbidity in the world, and I want to democratize plastic surgery in a global sphere.

Ge: I hope to bring a lot of patient connections. I love talking with patients, and I hope to take that extra minute with every patient I have in order to make them feel heard.

Auda: Growing up in this generation, I think it’s going to be important for us to bring all of those considerations that our generation has to the table as a doctor, which I’m excited to do.
