Michigan to repeal pharma industry’s legal liability shield from 1995

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is poised to sign a bill that would eliminate parts of a unique state law that since 1995 has shielded pharmaceutical companies from consumer lawsuits.

The change will mean that Michigan is no longer the only state that protects drugmakers from legal liabilities related to the safety and efficacy of their treatments, according to Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, who indicated last week that Whitmer will sign the bill.
