Ontada, Datavant Partner to Accelerate Oncology Innovation with Real-World Data

What You Should Know:

Ontada, a McKesson business specializing in real-world data and clinical technology for community oncology, has announced a strategic collaboration with Datavant, a health data platform.

– The partnership aims to accelerate oncology innovation by providing life science companies with faster access to Ontada’s comprehensive real-world data.

In October, Ontada partnered with Microsoft to utilize AI capabilities to extract actionable insights from vast amounts of unstructured healthcare data.

Unlocking the Power of Real-World Data

Ontada’s real-world data offers unique insights into the cancer patient journey, with a focus on community oncology settings where the majority of patients receive treatment. This data, representing over 2.4 million patients across more than 80 tumor types, is sourced from The US Oncology Network, an organization of independent, community-based oncology practices.

By collaborating with Datavant, Ontada is making this valuable data more readily available to researchers and life science companies. This increased access can significantly accelerate the discovery of critical insights that drive oncology innovation and improve patient outcomes.

Benefits of the collaboration include:

  • Faster Access to Data: Life science companies can quickly access Ontada’s real-world data through Datavant’s secure health data ecosystem, reducing time and effort in data acquisition.
  • Enhanced Data Utility: Datavant’s platform enables researchers to connect Ontada’s data with other relevant datasets, maximizing the potential for comprehensive analysis and discovery.
  • Accelerated Innovation: Faster access to insights can accelerate the development of new cancer therapies, diagnostic tools, and care delivery models.
  • Improved Patient Outcomes: Ultimately, this collaboration aims to improve the lives of cancer patients by accelerating the development of more effective and personalized treatments.

Expanding Access to Community Oncology Data

Ontada’s proprietary database, fed by The US Oncology Network, which treats one in five cancer patients in the U.S., provides a representative view of community cancer care. Through the collaboration with Datavant, this valuable data will be securely accessible to a wider range of researchers and life science companies, fostering innovation and collaboration in the fight against cancer.

“As the importance of real-world data in oncology continues to grow and the volume of data continues to increase, evaluating new data sources can be time-consuming,” said Amy O’Sullivan, senior vice president and chief research officer at Ontada. “Our Life Sciences partners need a quick way to identify data sources that will meet their needs and support their efforts to transform cancer treatment. Through our collaboration with Datavant, we’re enabling acceleration of fit-for-purpose data identification and time to insights, whether they be for generating real-world evidence, shaping commercial strategies, or developing new drugs.”
