Representatives concerned over DSCSA implementation and supply chain disruption

A group of bi­par­ti­san mem­bers of Con­gress, spear­head­ed by Reps. Troy Balder­son (R-OH) and Ann Kuster (D-NH), sent a let­ter to FDA Com­mis­sion­er Rob Califf to en­sure the agency ap­pro­pri­ate­ly im­ple­ments the fi­nal por­tions of the Drug Sup­ply Chain Se­cu­ri­ty Act (DSC­SA), which go in­to ef­fect lat­er this year.

One pro­vi­sion that goes in­to ef­fect by No­vem­ber 27 man­dates that all US man­u­fac­tur­ers, dis­trib­u­tors and dis­pensers be­gin elec­tron­i­cal­ly cap­tur­ing and shar­ing da­ta at the pack­age lev­el, al­low­ing the chain of a prod­uct to be tracked from man­u­fac­tur­ing to its fi­nal des­ti­na­tion.
