WASHINGTON — As scientists, patients and federal health staff express dismay over a Trump-ordered communications blackout at the Department of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s campaign team is fundraising off of the freeze in an attempt to pay off millions in debt from his presidential run.
The federal freeze has wreaked havoc on the nation’s health and science infrastructure, disrupting research and funding allocation, events and other work, and impeding agencies’ ability to communicate with the public about more pressing concerns, such as influenza and the H5N1 bird flu outbreak.
