The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions committee on Thursday advanced its version of the reauthorization of a major pandemic preparedness bill, with drug shortage help included, just a day after a House committee advanced its own version without those add-ons.
Featured in the Senate’s reauthorization of the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act (PAHPA) are tweaks to better help the government navigate future pandemics, particularly when it comes to the development and acquisition of tests and treatments. Also included: several new reporting requirements to help alleviate drug shortages, just as the US faces shortages of common cancer drugs, as well as new authority for FDA to look more closely into the supply chain and API sources.
